It’s been 6 years since the last time, that we had a hurricane in South Florida.  However we can never put our guard down.  We need to have an emergency plan in place in, order to keep our property secure and minimize the damage in case that a storm comes.   We can help you before and after the storm.

Precautionary steps should be taken to minimize or eliminate damages to your property before, the beginning of the new hurricane season. In preparedness for Hurricane Season, A&S Total Cleaning would like to offer our Handyman Services for preparation.

Preparation for Early Property and Personal Safety

Before hurricane season, we would need to inspect entire property including parking lot and common areas to trim back dead or weak branches from trees and secure all loose items around the property that could become projectiles during the high winds of a hurricane which is important.

Tree Trimming

We should evaluate the trees, to be trimmed by our technician. This will reduce resistance, and tree toppling, from hurricane wind force. During the process our technician would be trimming, cutting out the dead, diseased, and damaged wood, and removal of water sprouts. Also, we would need to remove from trees, any coconuts, fruits, and any fallen debris, which can fly through the air, and cause damages, during a hurricane or tropical wind force. After, we would haul away all debris and branches.

Protecting Windows from Wind and Debris Damage

Evaluating and inspecting windows for hurricane season in which the best way to protect windows from potential damage is with permanent shutters or hurricane impact windows which we can install. If you do not have shutters the next best protection, however, is to put up plywood panels. By measuring and cutting panels long before the storm. One half inch marine plywood is the best option, and marking which board fits which window. Pre-drilling holes every 18 inches for the screws will also save time when preparing for a hurricane.

More of our end customers are coming to us with questions about green floors specifically, how to clean and maintain them. Apparently, increasing numbers of facilities are installing alternatives to conventional floors and selecting floors made from more sustainable or recycled materials such as bamboo, cork and rubber.

In answering their questions, we tell them that most green floors are maintained in the same manner as conventional flooring. What is important is that the chemicals used on the floors be certified green. One study many years ago found that all of the environmental benefits of green floors can be erased if they are cleaned or maintained using conventional cleaning chemicals.

Here are a few other suggestions:

• Always review the cleaning recommendations of the floor’s manufacturer. If a hard copy is not available, try going online to see if the recommendations can be located there.
• For sustainable wood floors (bamboo, cork and others), minimize damp mopping; instead, use backpack vacuums whenever possible — which also helps protect indoor air quality — and/or dry/dust mop the floor, avoiding chemical dust mop treatments unless they are green.
• Install matting systems at all key entries; high-performance mats can help green a facility because they keep contaminants outside, helping floors to remain cleaner and healthier.
• Most green floors can be machine buffed using just a buffing pad. A “multi-wash” machine is another option for cleaning both carpets and hard surface floors. These machines have rotating brushes instead of pads, so they can remove dirt and soils below the surface with minimal amounts of water or chemical.
• Polishes and finishes are typically not used on green floors, at least the ones discussed here; again, refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations regarding applying glosses.
• As to chemicals, a neutral cleaner is often all that is necessary; there are several available that are green certified. However, if the floor is in a locker room, in a health care center or where there are increased concerns about germs and bacteria, a sanitizer or disinfectant may be necessary.

Myth #1 – Everyone Knows How To Clean
This myth suggests that since cleaning staff likely clean their own homes, they must already know everything needed to clean effectively at work. This simply isn’t true. The step-by-step procedures required for cleaning the wide range of areas within professional facilities is far more complex than cleaning a home. Effective hands-on training, followed by consistent feedback and positive reinforcement is the best way to ensure staff is educated on how to clean effectively and efficiently to both reduce germs in the environment and create an aesthetically appealing space that guests want to enjoy.

Myth #2 – Individual Products Are Required To Clean Each Different Area
Many products are typically formulated to handle one particular cleaning job. However, having a large arsenal of cleaning products doesn’t guarantee a staffer can tackle any problem. Instead, we suggest deploying effective multipurpose cleaning products that can handle a wide range of surface types and, in turn, help simplify cleaning routines by reducing the number of products needed to effectively clean and disinfect. For best results, the key is to always follow the instructions on the label and use the proper amount of cleaner, which will also reduce waste while increasing productivity.

Myth #3 – Employees Know What Is Expected Of Them
Another myth suggests that cleaning staff automatically understand the expectations and scope of their job based on past experience. Again, this is not always true. The desired appearance or specific cleaning requirements for various facilities/task areas can often vary greatly and must be communicated clearly in order to educate staff about what is expected in both process and outcomes.

Myth #4 – It Looks Clean, So It Must Be Clean
